AC Milan open talks with Benfica star striker

AC Milan have opened talks with Benfica for star striker Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan is becoming one of the best forwards in Europe.

AC Milan have an age problem with their strikers with Zlatan Ibrahimovic about to turn 40 and Mario Mandzukic becoming 35 in May. Obviously, the age aspect has also affected both players physically. They are more prone to injuries and recoveries are slower than before.

It is unlikely that the Rossoneri will start the new season with both of them. The Rossoneri are planning to sign a new striker that guarantees on a physical level and is also lethal in front of the goal. Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara are following several players with Darwin Nunez high on their list of targets.

Record.pt reports that AC Milan are very interested in the 21-year-old Benfica star. Darwin Nunez has scored 12 goals and assisted 9 in 34 appearances this season, in all competitions, attracting the attention of top European clubs.

Nunez joined Benfica last summer, arriving from Almeria for a club record fee of 24 million euros. In his only year with the Spanish club the Uruguay international scored 16 goals and assisted 3 in 32 games played. His great performances convinced Benfica to invest a lot in him. The talented center forward has a contract with Benfica until June 2025 and a release clause of 150 million euros.

AC Milan have been following Darwin Nunez since 2019, when the Uruguayan was considered an emerging talent playing for Penarol. According to Record, the Rossoneri recently inquired about his availability and new contacts with Benfica have been carried out in the last days. Qualification for Champions would allow Maldini and Massara to invest a lot in the summer for a new striker.
